Diabetes Education
The Northwest Hospital staff believes education is an important tool that people with diabetes can use to improve their health and their lives. Our teaching program includes the presentation of background information, as well as the practical skills needed for effective diabetes self-management. This knowledge builds confidence and encourages people with diabetes to achieve and maintain good health, and helps them prevent complications. We support quality of care by promoting professional growth and development of those health professionals involved in the care and education of people with diabetes.
Northwest Hospital & Medical Center offers a number of classes (Individual Instruction, Nutrition Clinic, Group Classes etc.) support groups and wellness resources to people with diabetes as well as their families and friends. Call 206-368-1564 for the schedule and/or more information.
Our objective is to:
- Provide to the person with diabetes and his or her family an appropriate education program on a consistent basis.
- Provide the members of the NWH staff access to teaching materials and resources to enable diabetes education.
- Complement the efforts of the health care provider with a comprehensive education program for their clients with diabetes.
- Direct the ongoing improvement of services to people with diabetes.
- Monitor and evaluate quality of the overall program.
- Facilitate continuing education in diabetes for health care professionals.
